Life Skills (Stage 2) Classes - All Ages

Have you caught the training bug?!

  • Did you enjoy our Life Skills (Stage 1) training course and feel ready to level up?

  • Have you completed an initial puppy course elsewhere, and are now seeking classes to progress your and your young dog’s skills further?

  • Perhaps you've done some private training with us or another trainer in equivalent foundation skills, and would like to develop them in a group environment?

  • Or maybe you've happily trained the basics yourself at home, and would now like to advance training with your dog in a group class?

If you’d love to build on your dog's foundation life skills whilst also having fun with your canine pal, our Life Skills (Stage 2) classes will:

  • Help you hone existing skills such as loose-lead walking, coming when called and settling calmly - in the presence of ‘distractions’

  • Introduce further core management and training skills for calmer social interactions and safer walks

  • Present you and your dog with fun and practical new activities for enjoying time spent together

“Tell me more!” ... here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How to ‘proof’ your dog’s behaviours so that ‘distractions’ don’t trump you

  • Techniques and strategies to facilitate calm greetings with people and other dogs – no barking, pulling or jumping!

  • Perfecting the ‘retrieve’ – reliably fetching, returning and dropping a thrown toy

  • The ‘emergency stop’ - teaching response to a cue given from a distance, for safety on walks

  • Scent work for beginners – harnessing the power of your dog’s nose!

  • How to train with platforms to advance your handler skills and enhance your dog’s precision

  • Introducing agility flatwork foundation skills

What’s included in Life Skills (Stage 2)?

  • 6 x 45 minute in-person group classes

  • Training notes and videos to support in-class exercises emailed after each class

  • Trainer support between classes via telephone, video call or email

  • A graduation gift for completing the course

Further course details

Will this course suit MY dog?

The course welcomes sociable dogs of any breed, gender and age (from 5 months old upwards) who have EITHER completed our Life Skills (Stage 1) training course; OR a foundation course elsewhere with equivalent content, OR; who have taken part in equivalent skills training outside of a group class environment.

If you are unsure if the Life Skills (Stage 2) course will be suitable for your dog, please do not hesitate to contact Sara for a friendly chat.

If your current priority is improving your dog’s recall skills, we recommend joining our Recall Stars training classes.

How many dogs are there in a class?

A maximum of five dogs are invited to join each course to ensure that everyone gets plenty of individual attention from the trainer.

Who can my dog bring to class?

To help both the dogs and humans concentrate and get the most out of the classes, it is recommended that only one or two people accompany each dog to class. Canine chums are unfortunately not permitted.

Where does the course take place?

Outdoors in a securely-fenced grass paddock at K9 Woodland Services, located just off the A4074 at Summer Barn, Cane End, RG4 9HG (approximately equidistant between the main local towns of Henley-on-Thames, Reading and Wallingford, which are all around a 15 minute drive away).

What clients say

“Sara was very patient with us humans as well as dogs, and her knowledge and expertise really shone through during instructions and demonstrations. The small class size was great as all the dogs were able to get some more targeted instruction, and Sara was always very relaxed and calm during the sessions. I can highly recommend Sara’s classes for any new puppy owners.”
